Testing out the YS-03 strobe and MDX-RX100/II housing with Sony RX100II camera was a blast!

I’d highly suggest this strobe to any photographers from beginner to intermediate who want to bring their boring blue/green photos back to life with rich color.

The keystone to the entire setup was the SEA&SEA YS-03 strobe that was not only extremely easy to use, but lit my subjects perfectly bringing back their vibrant colors.  It’s a terrific little strobe that’s easy to use but certainly packs a punch.  Anyone can use this strobe because it does the job for you.  No more settings to mess with!  Just go have fun taking photos.

I was happily surprised at how easy the entire system was to setup and use.  With a twist of the hand screw, the tray was attached to the camera and the strobe went on equally as easy.  After that, just plug in the fiber-optic cable between the strobe and camera housing and it’s ready to go!  It’s compact, lightweight, yet has everything needed to get some great shots.

I’d highly suggest this strobe to any photographers from beginner to intermediate who want to bring their boring blue/green photos back to life with rich color.

The most important element of good underwater photography is light.  The way light plays on a subject determines how the viewer will feel about the image.  That is why SEA&SEA's YS-03 strobe is such good news for compact camera users.  This powerful strobe is compact, yet delivers all the benefits of a great lighting system for photographers who wish to dive light.

I thought this system would be good for travelers, as it delivers a good quality image, in a lightweight compact package.

The YS-03 strobe itself has built-in TTL.  Simply turn it on and the amount of light needed is spot on every time.  A fiber-optic cable connects the strobe to the housing for easy set up.  The entire system takes only a few steps.  Just drop the camera into the housing, lock it down, and mount the housing to the tray with a finger screw.  Then connect the fiber-optic cable to the front of the housing and the front of the strobe.  That’s all there is to it.

I especially enjoyed the wide angle lens as it allowed me to shoot close focus and wide angle on a number of subjects.  The 100 degree width beam of one strobe was sufficient to light the subject and surrounding area, and the built in diffuser removed any hot-spots.  Overall, I thought this system would be good for travelers, as it delivers a good quality image, in a lightweight compact package.
